Irvine-based hard disk manufacturing company Western Digital (WD) has launched its new generation of ‘My Passport’ portable hard drives, My Passport Studio and My Passport for Mac.
The new portable hard drives are exclusively designed for use with Mac computers and Apple Time Machine, said the company. WD added, the new portable hard drives feature compact, Mac-inspired designs with high capacity storage options and security.
The company said My Passport Studio: shares and consumes "massive" amounts of digital content daily; offers up to 1 TB capacity; comes with encryption and password protection software; and provides multiple connectivity options with two FireWire 800 ports and a USB 2.0 interface.
The dual FireWire ports provide fast upload and transfer speeds. They also allow users to "daisy chain" additional drives or other peripherals such as HD camcorders, claimed WD.
My Passport for Mac, which is available in capacities up to 1 TB, is designed for Mac users who require high capacity storage, said the company. Powered through USB 2.0 interface, users can connect My Passport for Mac drive to their MacBook or MacBook Air without the need for additional cables or power source, said WD.
WD consumer electronics groups vice-president and general manager Jim Welsh said Mac users will find the perfect portable storage offering with WD’s My Passport Studio and My Passport for Mac high-capacity portable hard drives.
"We know the value our customers place on their digital content, which is why we set demanding requirements for durability, security, and long-term reliability, with all our drives," said Welsh.
