When it comes to information technology, now struggling Citicorp, New York is nothing if not grandiose: it has more than 100 different telecommunications networks in the 92 countries where it operates, and it hopes to save $100m a year by bringing them all together in a new operating unit called Global Information Network – but the first big beneficiaries will be not the bank but the companies called in to provide and install what could run to more than $1,000m of new equipment and systems integration services.
