White Plains, New York-based Prodigy Services Co plans to diversify from its core viewdata service and says it will develop its own interactive television TV services and will open a distributed interactive delivery network to third parties: the interactive service will operate via a digital box that sits atop the television set, which is being developed by General Instrument Corp’s Jerrold unit, and will include an 80386 processor, memory and graphics comparable with a personal computer; the box is expected to be available next year and it will mean that cable television subscribers will be able to receive the same Prodigy services now available to computer owners.
