In the latest move in the tortuous steps that are still expected to lead to the two state telephone operators becoming investors in British Telecommunications Plc’s Syncordia Inc systems integration and facilities management subsidiary, Deutsche Bundespost Telekom and France Telecom are to form Eunetcom to offer European and global data network facilities management services. Other companies will be invited to take stakes in Eunetcom, in which Bundespost Telekom and France Telecom will have similar shareholdings. The new company will be created within three months. The partners insist that it should not be seen as a rival to Syncordia and that if Bundespost Telekom or France Telecom join Syncordia it will be via Eunetcom. The delay in reaching a conclusion to the Syncordia negotiations is thought to be because the would-be investors do not want to commit themselves to anything with BT until the uncertainty created by the British General Election is safely out of the way.
