Tandem Computers Inc yesterday re-affirmed its commitment to the Windows NT market by rolling its year-old Unix development agreement with Ilustra Technologies over to Windows NT. Tandem has licensed Illustra’s object-relational DataBlade technology from new parent Informix Software Inc and will integrate the APIs into ServerWare SQL, a version of the NonStop SQL database that Tandem is creating for use on NonStop Kernel and NT servers built around its new ServerNet interconnect. Tandem has also licensed the Illustra database and the Universal Server combination of Illustra object and Informix relational databases and will resell them on its forthcoming NT servers. Tandem will demonstrate NonStop ServerWare SQL in December and ship the product this time next year. Tandem CEO Roel Pieper said the plan is to provide a consistent set of DataBlade APIs across its ServerNet-based NT and Himalaya systems. Numerous ISVs – as well as Informix and Tandem – are writing DataBlade modules that will enable audio, video, spatial and time data to be stored as real usable objects within existing databases. Universal Server software developers’ kits are supposed to ship in two weeks.
