Chelmsford, Massachusetts-based Telebit Corp, whose talks about being acquired have evolved into talks about the unnamed company licensing Telebit’s new Modem ISDN Channel Aggregation technology, would not comment on who the other company is, but said that if the deal goes through, the licensing would be synergistic with its existing operations – adding weight to the view that it could either be Shiva Corp or Ascend Communications Corp. Apparently the acquisition talks were broken off because we weren’t able to reach agreement on a number of things including price according to the spokesman. Telebit still hasn’t ruled out being taken over, since we have a fiduciary obligation to our shareholders, but that notwithstanding, our intentions have always been to remain independent. Telebit claims that it is also in discussions with other potential licensees for Modem ISDN Channel Aggregation, which will also be integrated into the company’s RemoteBlazer product.
