A Local Operating Network-to-personal computer gateway, the Serial LONTalk Network Interface, has been introduced by Cambridge, Cambridgeshire-based Io Ltd. The offering is said to provide bi-directional communications between Echelon Corp’s control-local area network and a serial port on an iAPX-86-based personal computer. The module contains two processors, a C3120 Neuron processor to interface to the LONTalk network, and an Intel Corp iAPX-86 to communicate with the personal computer. Dedicated firmware passes commands and data between the two systems, says the company. The module costs ú378, with a compatible remote input-output module coming in at ú200. The modules will be available later this month.
