Virtualisation and cloud infrastructure offerings firm VMware has introduced its upgraded virtualisation software Fusion 4, which allows Windows to run on a Mac.

VMware Fusion 4 is designed to provide a better Windows experience on OS X Lion and to run Windows and Mac applications side-by-side with speed and reliability, the company said.

The new technology supports OS X Lion in a virtual machine, allowing users to get more from their Mac by running OS X Lion, OS X Lion Server, Mac OS X Snow Leopard Server and Mac OS X Leopard Server in virtual machines.

It allow users to have even more Mac-like experiences when running Windows programs which includes the features from the brand new settings menu to the redesigned virtual machine library and snapshot menu and enhances the way Windows programmes run on a Mac.

Fusion 4 allows users to transfer their entire PC to a Mac and provides access to Windows programmes and files from their PC directly on their Mac, whenever they need them.

Vmware director of client product management Pat Lee said offering full integration into Apple OS X Lion, VMware Fusion 4 builds on their proven platform to provide an easy, fast and reliable way to run Windows applications on a Mac.
