Compaq Computer Corp yesterday launched new database servers to add to the tower and rack-mountable Compaq ProLiant families. The 100MHz Pentium-based ProLiant 4000 Model 5/100 and new 90MHz Pentium-based ProLiant 4000 and ProLiant 2000 Model 5/90 include the Transaction Blaster third-level cache option that offers 2Mb memory, is claimed to improve processor scalability and speeds things by cutting bus usage; prices are $11,600 to some $20,500.
