IBM Corp will spend $2m to help develop computer science institutes for Vietnamese executives and managers in Hanoi and Saigon, unpopularly known to the locals as Ho Chi Minh City: IBM will also help with programmes to teach English in schools and signed agreements for both pilot projects with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment; the Ministry of Education joined in signing the agreement for English instruction, which will involve use of IBM’s Write-To-Read; the company also expanded its computer sales and servicing network in Vietnam to five local firms from three; the company is also advising the Ministry on its plan to spend some $500m by 2000 to develop information technology in Vietnam.
