FABA GmbH will deliver version 3.0 of its object-oriented LinkWorks groupware by year-end. The Linz, Austria-based firm claims 3.0 will support more than 10,000 users – up from 2,000 now – as well as Microsoft’s Object Linking & Embedding 2.0 and shared libraries based on CORBA 1.1. FABA has a complex relationship with Digital Equipment Corp, which also sells LinkWorks. The product rights belong to DEC, which means DEC Corp gives FABA a development budget, but no royalties – FABA has signed a non-competition clause, which means it cannot develop the software for any other hardware vendor. However, LinkWorks is available on other environments such as IBM Corp’s AIX and is distributed to value-added resellers via FABA’s FABA Plus.
