Data General Corp’s CLARiiON Business Unit continues to plug the yawning revenue gap left by the decay of the Westborough, Massachusetts company’s proprietary minicomputer business, and in its latest coup has landed Silicon Graphics Inc as an OEM customer for its storage arrays. The Mountain View company will use the arrays with its Challenge line of network resource servers. The Challenge servers are specifically designed to manage very large relational database environments and video server applications and the CLARiiON arrays will be used to ensure the availability of critical customer data. We are working with Data General to tune the Challenge and CLARiiON subsystem combination to be one of the highest performing RAID solutions in the marketplace, Silicon Graphics asserted. Terms of the pact were not given.
