Hewlett-Packard Co’s Cupertino labs are developing H1 processors, compilers and HP-UX kernels. The Fort Collins, Colorado facility is working on Precision Architecture RISC while the Roseville, California lab will work on workstation and server development, since Hewlett-Packard and Intel Corp have decided against creating a dedicated development unit. Larry Inman, manager of worldwide advanced technical marketing, said it could be a year before the two are ready to talk in any detail about the H1/P7 technologies and their plans. Meantime, Hewlett-Packard’s first Precision Architecture iteration with on-board cache, the 7300LC, will be announced at the Microprocessor Forum in San Jose, California next month, with systems ready in a year, although it has PA-8000 systems up and running internally. Meantime, the company’s middleware engineering group has developed version 1.4 of its DCE/9000 system, with Distributed Computing Environment 1.1 underneath. CICS/9000 and Encina/9000 are now available for the latest K-class systems.
