Apple Computer Inc has announced the Apple Multimedia Kit for Macintosh, the Multimedia Kit for Windows, AppleDesign Powered Speakers II, and the AppleCD 300e Plus external CD-ROM player. The 300e includes a motorised, caddyless tray loader, the ability to play 3 or 5 CD-ROMs and a 342Kbps data transfer rate. It will be available this summer for $350. The AppleDesign Powered Speakers II feature magnetic shielding to prevent interference and are expected to be available in June for $80. The new Apple Multimedia Kit for Macintosh includes Apple’s new external CD-ROM player and AppleDesign Powered Speakers II, Apple Headphones, Compton’s Interactive Encyclopedia for Macintosh, all required cables, set-up software, and the customer’s choice of up to three free CD-ROM titles. And finally, the Multimedia Kit for Windows includes the AppleCD 300i Plus, an internal version of the CD-ROM player, AppleDesign Powered Speakers II, Apple Headphones, Compton’s Interactive Encyclopedia for Windows, and a MediaVision 16-bit sound board. Cables, set-up software, and up to three free CD-ROM titles are also included. The Apple Multimedia Kit for Macintosh is expected to be available in May, and the Multimedia Kit for Windows is expected to follow in June. Each is priced at $450.
