Imation Corp, of Oakdale, Minnesota (Who? You know them, honest… yes you do – it’s the imaging and information company – tapes, floppy disks and things – spun off by Minnesota Mining & Manufacturing Co) has made its first expansionary move, wooing and winning Luminous Corp, a privately-held Seattle-based developer and marketer of desktop software to the prepress, print production, printing and graphic arts industries. It will pay cash and shares but terms were not disclosed. Imation says it will accelerate amortization of the goodwill in the range of $10m to $12m in 1996, and otherwise, there will be no meaningful impact on Imation’s reported 1996 operating results.
