We’ve all got a television set and most of us have a touch-tone telephone, so hey! says 8×8 Inc, you’ve got all the makings of a videoconferencing system. The Santa Clara designer of highly integrated proprietary video compression chips and associated software for videoconferencing systems is raising money with an initial public offering to raise $20m to bring to market the VC100 VideoCommunicator, which connects to a television set and a standard touch-tone telephone, adding video to an otherwise normal telephone call, without the need for a personal computer. 8×8 is planning to introduce the consumer VC100 in early 1997.
