NEC Corp’s senior vice-president Yoshi Takayama said the company’s domestic personal computer shipments in the April to September period rose more than 30% from the 1.3 million it shipped domestically the same period a year ago. He also said the firm would achieve its target of 3.8m shipments to the home market this fiscal year to the end of March 1997, up 28% from last year. He said growth in ships in the first half was more or less in line with the expansion of Japan’s total personal computer market, meaning NEC’s market share would not decrease from its current 50%.
