Increased volumes across the board resulted in results ahead of analysts’ expectations from privatized Dutch post and telecommunications company Koninklijke PTT Nederland NV. The company singled out mobile telecommunications, national telephone and mail services as the main drivers behind an 11% increase in net profits for 1995 to the equivalent of $1,368.0m. Turnover rose 7% to $11,592.0m. It said growth in operating revenues and net profits was likely to be similar this year, but would be partially offset by mounting price pressures and costs associated with acquisitions made in 1995 and the current fiscal year. In order to continue the acquisition strategy and to refinance current loans, the PTT is looking to increase its borrowing this year. PTT Telecom accounted for $8,244.6m of group sales, of which $835.4m was from mobile communications services sales, a 52% jump on last time. Mobile subscribers rose 60% to 513,000 during the year, of whom 241,000 were connected to the Groupe Speciale Mobile network. In 1994 mobile subscribers grew by 49%. Domestic telephony revenues services grew 5% to $3,855.9m, while international revenues edged up just 0.8% to $1,495.1m.
