Bell Atlantic Corp denied a Baltimore Sun report that the company was in a financial crisis and a company spokesman said analysts’ expectations that it would earn $3.55 a share this year were within reason: the Baltimore Sun quoted a memo by a regional executive as saying that there was a financial crisis in the company that went beyond her organisation and line of business, but Bell Atlantic said the memos referred to address budgetary issues for a particular part of the business at local organisation level and it’s due to an abnormal event, that is storm-related increases in overtime expenses.
