Ing C Olivetti SpA is launching Sinfonia, a long distance phone service for corporate users, which will be headed by Infostrada, the joint venture between Olivetti and Bell Atlantic Corp, and will also take in France Telecom, Deutsche Telekom AG and Sprint Corp. The move follows Olivetti’s announcement in November 1995 of a joint venture with France Telecom to set up Italy’s second major network to compete with state-controlled Telecom Italia SpA (CI No 2,794) which also involved Bell Atlantic, Sprint and Telekom. Sinfonia will start in Milan, Rome, Turin, Bologna, Genoa, Verona, Padova, Florence and Naples from June. The aim is to cover all major provincial cities in 1997.
