Legato Systems, the Palo Alto, California-based network back-up specialist has added an Informix back-up module to its NetWorker storage software, now in release 4.2 (CI No 2,872). The module provides storage management services for the Informix-OnLine Dynamic Server’s back-up and restore utility, so administrators can back up Informix databases while in use. It will be available in September for Solaris 2.4, with AIX and HP-UX versions close behind. Meantime, Legato has got together with Hewl ett-Packard Co for various support and marketing initiatives. Legato’s NetWorker will support Hewlett’s new family tape back-up subsystems, which are the combination of Hewlett-Packard robotics and Quantum Corp’s DLT4000 digital linear tape drives (CI No 2,938), on release in August. The pair are also releasing a NetWorker MPE/iX client module that can back-up HP 3000 enterprise servers to a NetWorker server running on an HP 9000. The MPE/iX client module will ship by November. Legato also has a world-wide support agreement with Hewlett-Packard and is working to achieve certified and premier partner status in the Palo Alto firm’s Open-View Partner program.
