Mobile, Alabama laser printer and printing software specialist QMS Inc is finding life tougher and tougher, and late Wednesday, it announced that it is contemplating the possible sale or liquidation of its European and Japanese operational assets. It says it is discussing potential transactions with a foreign-based third party and intends to explore the idea with other parties. Such a transaction would enable it to focus on high-end networking printers, colour printers and digital imaging systems, and by focusing on these products instead of low-end monochrome printers, the company believes that it can return to profitability: the disposal of its international assets should reduce working capital needs, and proceeds should help it restructure its revolving credit pact, which expires and has to be renewed in January.
