South Korea has invited foreign firms to bid for a $100m project to establish a train radio system for the planned Seoul-Pusan high-speed railway: the Korea High Speed Rail Construction Authority said firms should form a consortium with domestic communications firms; the Authority will select five foreign firms to which requests for proposals are to be issued in May and a final winner will be decided by the end of this year; South Korea tentatively selected a consortium led by GEC Alsthom NV last year to supply the trains and transfer the technology for the $13,200m railway project; authorities have yet to finalise the contract which is subject to further negotiations over technology transfer and financing.
