Banyan Systems Inc and Siemens Nixdorf Informationssysteme AG, Paderborn, Germany have announced an agreement to develop and integrate Banyan Enterprise Network Service with Siemens Nixdorf’s Sinix Unix product line based on the RM Systems family. The long-term strategic partnership will include product development, marketing and technical support that will be aimed at enabling Banyan enterprise networking technology to be used as a component of Siemens Nixdorf’s commercial Unix server strategy. This new version of Enterprise Network Service for Unix will enhance the ability of Siemens Nixdorf RM Systems servers running Sinix to support large client-server enterprise networks, the companies say. The move, according to John Paul, Banyan System’s senior vice-president of product and business development, is a logical one considering that Banyan first announced that it would support the Siemens Nixdorf personal computer environment in 1994. According to Rudolf Bodo, vice-president and general manager of Siemens Nixdorf’s mid-range systems unit, the announcement is another in a series that strengthens the appeal of its fully scalable, binary compatible RM product line, that ranges from the RISC desktop to symmetric multiprocessing systems.
