The new president of NEC Corp, Dr Hisashi Kaneko, outlined the directions for NEC under his leadership at an event marking the 95th anniversary of the company this month. The five main pillars of NEC business over the next few years will be multimedia, where NEC is hoping to be one of the world’s leading multimedia companies; increased customer orientation; technological innovation; the manufacture of products to de facto world standards; and continuous organisational reform. Immediate goals set by Dr Kaneko include taking NEC to annual profits of more than $2,000m by 1999, the 100th anniversary of the company’s foundation; increased globalisation – by 1999 overseas sales should account for 40% of total consolida ted sales; and creating firm foundations for further growth.
