Some 3,000 Alcatel SEL AG workers protested yesterday against the Stuttgart company’s alleged plan to eliminate up to 4,000 jobs. The works council and engineering union IG Metall accused the French parent company Alcatel Alsthom SA of adopting a policy of wholesale firings.
