Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC Corporation has acquired Seattle-based cloud services company Dashwire for $18.5m.
Following the deal, Dashwire will become a wholly owned subsidiary of HTC.
Dashwire, founded in 2006, offers Dashworks platform that provides mobile and web applications, enabling users to setup and personalise their smartphones, and access their mobile content across multiple screens and services.
HTC says that mobile communications and cloud services hold the key to the company’s future development, and expects that the deal will strengthen its position in cloud computing.
HTC will employ Dashwire’s cloud sync and device set up products to extend the HTCSense.com cloud services it launched last year.
The acquisition will also enable HTC to expand its product portfolio in the mobile market amid competition from rivals Apple and Samsung Electronics.
