Satellite and other wireless networking systems and services provider ViaSat has reported an increase in revenue for the first quarter of fiscal year 2012 to $195.1m, compared to $192m in Q1 2011.

The net income during the period fell to $1.8m compared to $3.3m during the first quarter of fiscal year 2011.

The company said revenues and earnings reflected new contract delays in prior periods and costs associated with the ViaSat-1 launch schedule.

ViaSat sees opportunities from new commercial contracts, growth in mobile broadband networks, and a good start to its Eutelsat Tooway network.

The company reported an adjusted EBITDA of $36.1m during Q2 2012 against an adjusted EBITDA of $37.6m in the first quarter of 2011.

The Government Systems segment saw a 3% decrease in revenues to $86.2m, over the first quarter of fiscal year 2011, due to lower sales of tactical data link products and services, offset by higher sales of government satellite communication systems and services.

The Commercial Networks segment revenues were $52.1m, a 14.1% increase, led by an increase in sales of mobile broadband satellite communication systems, consumer broadband products and services, and antenna systems.

Satellite Services segment revenues dropped by 1.2% to $56.9m for the first quarter, primarily due to lower sales of its managed broadband services.
