Randi Zuckerberg, who is Facebook marketing director and sister of CEO and co-founder Mark Zuckerberg, has resigned from her job to start a new media firm RtoZ Media.

All Things Digital reported that Randi has been on maternity leave for the last three months.

The report said, citing sources, that the leave after having her first child helped her plan about the move.

In her resignation letter, Randi said, "Now is the perfect time for me to move outside of Facebook to build a company focused on the exciting trends underway in the media industry."

She also added that she would be associated with Facebook in future.

She wrote, "My goal is to launch my own innovative programming and work with media companies to develop their programming in new, and more social ways. In attacking this challenge, Facebook will clearly be a central element in all of my projects…And to the extent it makes sense for you, I’d be happy to advise Facebook on media projects, "Facebook Live" or other initiatives if it is desired."

"Be assured I will continue to be a strong, vocal evangelist for the most incredible social platform ever created. I am thankful for the strong mentorship, guidance, and support, which is empowering me to follow my dreams and show that you don’t have to be an engineer to be a hacker."

Facebook has confirmed the news.

The social networking company said, "We can confirm Randi has decided to leave Facebook to start her own company. We are all grateful for her important service."

Mark Zuckerberg has not commented on the matter so far.
