The incredible shrinking Mac graphics add-on specialist Radius Inc, Sunnyvale, California is now handing its European distribution over to a new company, Abacus Technologies Ltd, formed for the purpose by Janson Computers Plc, the parent of Computers Unlimited. Abacus will be sharing the latter’s headquarters which are in London.

One personal computer market going gangbusters is Japan. There, shipments soared 51% on last year in the April to June quarter to 1.64m machines, says the Japan Electronic Industry Development Association; by value, shipments in Japan grew 52% to the equivalent of $3,475m.

Nominet UK, the new not-for-profit national body established to support all sections of the UK’s Internet industry and take responsibity for registering Internet names, held its first meeting this week. Until recently, Internet registration had been undertaken on a voluntary basis, but due the Web’s increasing popularity and growing expense, all new registrations of Internet names in the .uk, plc and ltd.uk domain will now cost 100 British pounds for two years, with subsequent renewals charged at a maximum 50 pounds a year, although the prices will be reviewed during the current year.
