Two more majors are poised to join the notebook computer fray in earnest – Hewlett-Packard Co and Digital Equipment Corp. Hewlett was yesterday due to launch two colour notebooks, the OmniBook 4000 and the OmniBook 600. The latter is said to have a bright, sharp color screen, a full-size keyboard and high-speed 80486 chip, weighing in at 3.8 lbs. It supports an external 3.5 floppy drive and features an instant-on feature so that when you open it it resumes where you left off when you shut it. Costing from $2,600 and is out by month-end. The 4000 has a built-in floppy, weighs about 7 lbs, has an active matrix display and second battery. It costs $3,300 up and follows in January. Both feature pop-out mouse in the side of the box.
