Bellevue, Washington-based Pacific Northwest Cellular Inc and General Cellular Corp have combined their cellular telephone operations to create what they reckon will be the largest rural cellular service provider in the US: they will call the combination Western Wireless Corp and it operates in 16 states with cellular licences encompassing 25% of the land in the continental US; operating as Cellular One, the new firm serves 69 markets including 17 metropolitan statistical areas throughout Montana, North Dakota, Wyoming, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota, Texas, Nevada, Colorado, Minnesota, Idaho, New Mexico, Iowa, Illinois and California, representing 5.2m net people including pending acquisitions.
