Early in March RUI ap, the Russian Independent Marketing Consultant for Apple Computer Inc, announced the Russian launch of the PowerMac line. General director of RUI ap David Krauskopf says there are so far no Russian dealer prices since he has access to only a relatively small number of units. The company says that it aims to sell the PowerMac through an expanded dealer channel which will include distributors that do not normally carry Apple products. Krauskopf says Russians have not been falling over themselves to buy the Apple Newton Personal Digital Assistant which was launched in Russia last November. He says around 200 have been bought. It has not established itself as more than a good personal organiser, he says. It’s market in Russia is limited since although it is possible to input Cyrillic characters into the system the character recognition software will work with a language other than English – ironic since it was developed by JV Paragraph in Russia…
