Informix Eastern Europe has been given the go-ahead to expand its Russian operation. Director of marketing for Central and Eastern Europe Werner Niebel says Russia is to be upgraded from a sales office to first-line technical support. The Informix office, now with three people, will expand to eight by the end of 1994. Informix now has 100 people in the Central and Eastern European region with board approval for 254 by the end of the year. Niebel says Informix will position itself against Oracle Systems Corp through its distribution strategy. Once sales reach a certain level Oracle will always step in and sell direct: this is not our style. We are looking for long-term partnerships, he says. Among Informix installations are the National Bank of Kazakhstan and the Ministry of Finance.
