The Fort Lauderdale, Florida-based Telematics International unit of Israel-based ECI Telecom Ltd has launched the NCX range of Asynchronous Transfer Mode products designed for the wide area. The products comprise access, edge and backbone switches designed for carrier and mission-critical network environments, and include the company’s Subscriber Oriented Networking. This is a hardware and software combination designed to equip the NCX with embedded intelligence for better management of network resources. The system for the product line – called NCX 1E6 – is based on a mid-plane architecture, with the front board containing switching intelligence and the back board containing the physical interface. The company claims it delivers high performance switching for both access and backbone links, ranging from T1/E1 to 155Mbps OC-3/STM-1. All the products will be capable of switching Asynchronous Transfer Mode, Frame Relay, circuit emulation services such as voice, video or facaimile, and a range of outdated traffic such as SNA and X.25. Advanced traffic management capabilities will be included, with network management implemented through its Open Management System. The first products in the series are expected by the end of the year, costing between $55,000 and $300,000.
