NEC Corp has announced its Wireless Access series product line, a group of wireless telecommunication systems aimed at the Wireless Local loop market. These interface with the Public Switched Telephone Network and provide the final link from the radio base station to the subscriber terminal. The ‘WA Series’ the company says that WA means ‘circle’ or ‘harmony’ in Japanese – includes the WA 800/900, based on analogue Advanced Mobile Phone System and Total Access Communications Systems standards. These operate respectively in the 800MHz and the 900MHz frequency bands. Also announced is the WA 1500/2400, a Time Division Multiple Access digital system using either the 1.5GHz or the 2.4GHz frequency band. The WA 800/900 is a fixed cellular system, says the company, while the WA 1500/2400 is based on an enhanced version of NEC’s DRMASS technology, which features a new mini-terminal for subscribers; no price or availability details yet.
