DeTeMobil, the cellular telephone arm of Deutsche Telekom AG, is interested in bidding for a Groupe Speciale Mobile network licence in Slovakia. It already has one in Austria, and says there is heavy traffic between Bratislava and Vienna. Slovakia was expected to announce a tender for a license late last week, but has said it will be delayed a few days. Eurotel sro, a joint venture between local telephone monopoly Slovenske Telekomunikacie sp and Bell Atlantic Corp and US West Inc, currently operates the country’s only mobile network, an NMT analog network. Successful applicants in Slovakia would be combined foreign and local joint ventures, with a majority stake held by domestic interests.
