Compaq Computer Corp has turned to The Inventec Group of Taiwan to help it with its portable computer efforts, and the two will work together on the design and engineering of a new line of Compaq notebooks to be manufactured by Inventec and available later this year. Compaq will continue to manufacture its existing portable lines – Contura, Aero and LTE Elite – in its Houston, Erskine, Scotland; and Singapore factories. Inventec, of Taipei, employs 4,900 people in seven countries and did $450m last year.
