Troubled disk drive maker SyQuest Technology Inc, Fremont, California, plans to release two new products in the third or fourth quarter after its recent business overhaul. The company, which previously only said it was looking for potential strategic partners, now says it wants a manufacturing partner to help give it some purchasing power and more capacity than its recently shrunken Malaysian operation. The company would not release any details about the new products, but said it’s aiming at a similar customer base and in the future it hopes to build products to attract major OEM deals. Acting chief financial officer Jim Graber said the company was in transition but will add a couple products this year which will hopefully be successful after sales of some of our older products declined more than we expected, he added. Graber’s successor, John Luhtala from Amdahl Corp, starts at SyQuest next week.
