VLSI Technology Inc and DSP Group Inc said VLSI has licensed both DSP Group’s Pine signal processing core technology and Truespeech speech compression technology; they have also agreed on the terms of a license for DSP Group’s next-generation Oak core technology; VLSI will integrate the Pine core into its FSB cell library for design in wireless communications applications first and later, other applications for communications and consumer products; VLSI’s first product will be a programmable communications controller; design will initially be done at the firm’s Sophia-Antipolis, France facility; the first products based on the Pine core are due late this year.
