IBM spent $1.2m, while Apple spent $560,000 on government lobbying in the first quarter, according to reports by AP.

The report said that IBM lobbied on issues such as the effect of the Obama administration’s health care legislation on IBM, tax loopholes, and international trade.

This quarter’s spend is about $600,000 less than what IBM spent in the year ago quarter. This time among the agencies the company lobbied include Congress, the Department of Commerce, the Department of State, and the Securities and Exchange Commission.

IBM’s lobbying was also increasingly international. International issues included income tax arrangements with China, India, Brazil and Korea.

Meanwhile, Apple’s spend on lobbying remained nearly the same as the year-ago quarter at $560,000. The company lobbied mainly on green technology, education, patent reform, corporate tax reform and children’s online privacy and safety.

The agencies Apple lobbied include Senate, EPA, the Department of Education, and Federal Communications Commission.
