Telecommunications and networking company Cisco has introduced an application built for its Android-based tablet Cisco Cius – AppHQ.
The application provides new ways to create, manage and deploy tablet apps in the enterprise, said the company.
AppHQ provides developers with tools and resources to create, test and market apps for Cisco Cius, and allows IT managers to control which apps can be used on the devices.
The company said that companies can also create private, custom-branded application storefronts for their organisations where employees can find, publish and procure applications that complement their business environments.
Cisco Cius combines voice, video, collaboration, and virtualisation capabilities. Cisco said that with Cisco Cius, organisations can deliver an optimised tablet with enterprise-grade security, as a natural extension of the enterprise network.
The device also provides customers with mobility, centralised manageability, virtual content creation and computing capabilities, and a comprehensive suite of collaboration applications, Cisco said.
Some of the other capabilities of Cisco AppHQ include: testing and validation; Store-within-a-Store feature; and IT management control.
Cisco AppHQ also offers a user-friendly interface to find and install applications, and a platform for user feedback about applications, said Cisco.
Cisco Communications and Collaboration Group senior vice-president Barry O’Sullivan said with the Cisco Cius tablet and AppHQ ecosystem, Cisco is extending its leadership in networked collaboration to the mobile form factor in a highly secure and controlled way.
O’Sullivan added, "Our customers’ positive response to Cius reflects how technology can change not only when and how we work, but also the way IT will deliver collaborative services to employees, and do so in a way that meets the needs of end users and developers and IT managers."
