An international consortium formed by Cable & Wireless Plc with 70%, and Telecom Finland, 30%, has won a contract to modernise the telecommunications network in Latvia. The consortium will hold 49% of the Latvian telecommunications company Lat Telecom which owns all telecommunications systems in the republic. The project will cost $1,000m over 10 years. The project is aimed at making Latvia a major regional communications hub.
