US Robotics Inc, the Skokie, Illinois company that is currently king of the heap in modems, is moving upmarket in alliance with Cisco Systems Inc. The two are putting together a strategic marketing and technical alliance that will lead to the integration of Cisco’s Internetwork Operating System into modem pools and Enterprise Network Hubs – racks of modems – designed by US Robotics to create a range of network communications products. The alliance is to embrace technology development, integrated product development, OEM manufacturing by US Robotics for Cisco and in the future, reciprocal sales and marketing. The first product integrates the Cisco 2500 Series Access Server into US Robotics’ Total Control Enterprise Network Hub to create a dial-in remote access system in a single chassis.
