US Federal plans to tighten aircraft security by developing computer systems to gather data on passengers and compare them to a profile of likely terrorists have drawn flak from privacy advocates in the US, who maintain that the personal details of passengers, including credit histories, political affiliations and criminal records, will be made available to thousands of airline employees. The information would be used to select individuals for closer security checks and because of the public’s fear of terrorists could get through where other attempts to compile personal dossiers have failed.
