Newbridge Networks Corp, of Kanata, Ontario has moved to secure its future in the Asynchronous Transfer Mode world by signing to acquire the all the intellectual property associated with Asynchronous Mode switch product research and development activity of MPR Teltech Ltd, its existing partner on the technology. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Newbridge entered into a long-term strategic partnership agreement with MPR in 1991 to combine the development programs of both companies under the Newbridge umbrella, and the two signed a three-year extension to the agreement in 1994 which expanded the level and scope of joint development for products, applications and services. MPR Teltech, Burnaby, British Columbia is the equipment unit of BC Telecom Inc. Separately, PCS Wireless Inc, Vancouver said it has decided not to proceed with purchase of MPR Teltech’s rural communications unit.
