Technology company HP Enterprise Services has won a contract from the Judiciary of Guam to modernise its court case management system and improve access to the courts via the Internet.
HP is expected to act as a systems integrator for the judiciary’s court case management system.
Guam expects 25% population growth over the next four years. It is hoped that HP’s service will help the government address the increased demand on judicial services.
Under the terms of the contract, HP will help provide round-the-clock public access to court information. It will also improve system efficiency, streamline reporting, administration and performance management, said the company.
The new integrated court case management system will offer a range of new benefits to both citizens and jurors. Citizens will be able to file court documents, pay fees and check the status of cases online, while jurors can communicate with the courts via email and online, said the company.
Supreme Court of Guam chief justice F Philip Carbullido said it is a very exciting time for Guam as it works alongside private industry to accommodate the current and impending population growth of the island by revamping its infrastructure and modernising citizen services.
Carbullido said, "With this system upgrade we are now better equipped to deliver on our mission of providing accessible judiciary services to the citizens of Guam."
US Public Sector HP Enterprise Services senior vice-president and general manager Dennis Stolkey said court systems worldwide are facing challenges from increased case loads, greater complexity of cases and the ever growing needs of administering an end-to-end justice process.
Stolkey added, "With an integrated court management system based on HP’s 30 years of judicial experience, Guam is able to meet these demands while providing citizens with an open and transparent court."
The upgrade will use technical expertise and e-filing software from New Dawn Technologies.
