As the Japanese population ages and fewer children are born, Yamaha Corp is finding the going increasingly tough in its core musical instruments business, but the company has been saved by its diversification into music-related components. Now in order to win better name recognition for its multimedia components, its Yamaha Systems Technology Inc arm has teamed with Irvine, California-based Western Digital Corp to develop and sell three-dimensional technologies for multimedia computers. The first project will be a games board for use in Windows computers, based on the Yamaha YGV612 three-dimensional Rendering Polygon Accelerator, which will be marketed under Western Digital’s Paradise brand of graphics and video accelerators.
