The chip sales book-to-bill ratio increased to 0.91% last month mainly due to the decline in billings, according to the Semiconductor Industry Association. The actual bookings increase was only 0.7%. New chip orders in June rose from $3.09bn to $3.11bn, a 27.9% decline from the $4.31bn in bookings from June 1995 when the ratio stood at 1.17. Billings in June were 7.5% below the May billings total of $3.70bn, and fell 7.2% lower than June 1995 billings of $3.70bn. The book to bill ratio compares new chip orders to prior sales, which means last month, chip companies received $91 in new orders for every $100 in shipments.
