Hewlett-Packard Co this week announces additions to its Praesidium security line. Security Service is based around Hewlett-Packard’s Authorization Server (CI No 2,923). The server enables firms to set up profiles for groups of individuals to manage access, time and money spent. All that appears to be new here is consultancy offered with the systems. And Virtual Vault is a Web server running on top of a hardened B1-secure HP-UX. It’s based on software Hewlett-Packard got from the acquisition of SecureWare Inc in April (CI No 2,858), and controls all transactions through Common Gateway Interface applications. Next month Hewlett-Packard will unveil Smart Card technology it developed with Gemplus SA and Informix Inc. In addition to giving access to networks, the card will also enable data encryption using the Hewlett-Packard Internet Cryptography Framework software.
